Trade in Fractions

Instructions

Trading fractional shares allows you to invest in companies for which you may not be able to afford the total share price. It makes it easier to diversify your portfolio by allowing you to purchase fractional amounts in multiple companies when you may have only been able to buy whole shares in one or two companies.

If you enable your account to trade in fractions, we will buy or sell a fraction of a share based on the amount of cash you specify. For example, if you want to spend $500 but one share of the stock you want to buy is currently $1000 you would end up with 0.5 shares.

To enable this feature, please take the steps outlined below.

  1. Click the User menu (head and shoulders icon in the top right corner) > Settings > Trading > Trading Permissions.

  2. The Trading Permissions panel displays your current trading permissions. Select Add/Edit under Stocks.

The trading experience & permissions panel in client portal.

  3. Select the check box to the left of Global (Trade in Fractions).

  4. Press Continue.

  5. Read and acknowledge any disclosures that may populate and press Continue again to save the changes.
