Authentication Using Passkey

Instructions

IBKR allows users to authenticate their login using passkeys.

Passkeys

  • are a software or hardware-based solution that relies on biometric verification (Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint) or physical security keys, eliminating the need to manually enter authentication codes.

  • are phishing-resistant by design. They use an advanced cryptographic technology to provide secure authentication and protect your account from unauthorized access.

  • are a modern and highly secure form of two-factor authentication (2FA) based on the WebAuthn/FIDO2 industry standard.

The standards we adhere to for Passkey implementation support a number of devices and platforms, including physical security keys (YubiKey, Google Titan, Token2), iPhones (iOS 16+), Android phones (Android 9+), and password managers (1Password, Bitwarden, NordPass, etc.).

This wide hardware and software support for storing and using Passkeys allows you a great degree of freedom when choosing your authentication method. If you are already using a device or password manager with Passkey support for other services, you may simply add your IBKR account to it. Otherwise, you may use your mobile phone, a password manager with Passkey support, or a physical security key to register a new Passkey.

Note: Passkey support is being rolled out gradually. Once your account is eligible, you will be able to activate your Passkey directly from the Secure Login System menu within Client Portal's Settings or via a dedicated login task. If neither option is available to you yet, your account will be enabled as part of a later rollout.
